Rachel Shields Raises Money for ASTI at Marathon

Rachel Shields runs first Marathon in aid of Acid Survivors Trust International. Rachel is a reporter for Independent on Sunday. ASTI congratulates her and is indebted for her incredible efforts to raise funds for us. The money she has raised will help towards medical treatment and much needed therapy for survivors. In her own words she writes: Rachel Shields- ASTI's first Marathon Runner
“I decided to run my first marathon in support of ASTI after seeing the amazing work the organisation does first-hand in Bangladesh. I was impressed by how much ASTI achieves with scant resources, and was struck by the fact that many victims of acid violence would receive little or no surgery or rehabilitation without ASTI.
Having never run a marathon before, I may have been a little over-confident at the outset. 13 miles in the end still looks very far away, but luckily the crowd was very encouraging, and kept me going whenever I was flagging (read:walking). However, I kept going and was pleased to cross the finish line in 3hrs 50 minutes; mostly because it meant I could stop running!

I’m really happy to be able to help ASTI, albeit in a small way, and hope I can continue to support the charity in future.”
