Fifth Acid Attack in Hong Kong
Only a few months ago we reported that Hong Kong has been home to four acid attacks in less then one year. As of this weekend we have received word that Hong Kong has witnessed it’s fifth.
Similar to the events that happened in the previous attacks, a bottle of corrosive acid was hurled into a crowd in a bustling shopping district.
According to one report, “Causeway Bay was packed on Saturday night with people celebrating the Hong Kong football team’s shock victory over Japan in the East Asian Games final at a nearby stadium… Five women and a man suffered burns and were sent to hospital for treatment. One of the women’s face and chest were badly injured, with burns covering nearly 20 percent of her body.”
As one blogger wrote, “Our little sanctuary called Hong Kong is a slice of heaven. Until today. Outside SOGO on our very island’s Causeway Bay there was an acid attack sending four persons to the Hospital, two of which suffer ’severe burns’. This comes as a shock given the relative safety we have so far enjoyed island side”.
We are looking to hear from someone who can kindly inform us in greater detail as to the situation of acid attacks in the Hong Kong region and in the mean time will be keeping a closer eye on further developments arising.
