ASTI & Nepalese Embassy Launch BVS-Nepal
London – On 6 October 2010 the Nepalese Embassy hosted the official launch of ASTI’s partner organisation Burns Violence Survivors – Nepal (BVS-N).
BVS-Nepal is dedicated to addressing the problem of burn violence in Nepal, where attacks with kerosene and acid, as well as burn-related suicide (often stemming from domestic violence) are prevalent. BVS-Nepal joins a growing network of ASTI partners across the world including those in Bangladesh, Cambodia, Pakistan and Uganda.

The evening was hosted by His Excellency, Dr. Suresh Chandra Chalise, the Nepalese Ambassador to the UK. The event was attended by HRH The Princess Royal, ASTI’s Royal Patron, who spoke about her dedication to the cause. Other guests included the High Commissioners from Bangladesh and Pakistan, representatives from Nepalese humanitarian organisations, major international NGOs, charitable foundations and social advocacy groups. Trustees, staff and friends of ASTI were also in attendance.
A traditional Nepalese dinner was sponsored by Mr. Kul Acharya, Director of Holy Cow Catering.
ASTI and the Acid Survivors Foundation (ASF) community have worked consistently for over ten years to stop acid violence, treat the injuries and help rebuild the lives of those who survive acid attacks in an increasing number of priority countries. ASFs have been established by ASTI in Asia, South Asia and Africa with much success.
With its successful launch, BVS-Nepal aims to raise awareness of the incidence and issues of acid and burns violence against women, throughout the world but especially in Nepal and raise money to assist survivors and help eradicate burns violence.
