Article in The Lancet

A recent article in The Lancet looks at efforts in Pakistan to bring about “stricter laws against [acid violence]. The acid control and burn crime prevention bill, which they hope will be passed by parliament by the end of this year, will tighten control over the sale of acid, which is readily and cheaply available in most Pakistani markets.”

As Pakistan moves closer to implementing such legislation, Dr Ron Hiles, a long time volunteer surgeon on acid and burns violence, discusses the need for “a holistic approach to this problem—not just medical but also political and commercial.”
