Fifth Acid Attack in Hong Kong
Brace yourselves, Hong Kong has witnessed its fifth collateral acid attack in 1 year. As of this weekend, up to 9 people were left injured after an unknown person hurled acid into a crowd of shoppers, bringing the total injured this year to over 100 individuals.

Friday turns jubilation day for acid burn survivor
Pakistani acid burn survivor Naila Farhat wins Supreme Court Case within 10 minutes. Her perpetrator is awarded 12 years imprisonment along side having to pay a compensation of PKR 1.2 million to Naila.

Nepal Has Finally Enacted the Domestic Violence and Punishment Act 2065
On April 19, 2009 Nepal finally followed the example of her neighbours, by enacting the Domestic Violence and Punishment Act 2065. However we are saddened that under the Law perpetrators will only be subject to up to four months of imprisonment and a fine of Rs6,000 (about US$76).

Her face is dominated by a grotesque patch of purple bruising with stitches that run under her eyebrows and down to her nose. She can barely open her eyes. Lucky is an ironic name for someone whose features have been melted down by battery acid.

Further Surgery Needed for ‘Invincible’ Baby Durjoy
It is now just over four and a half years since Baby Durjoy had his life threatened by a vicious attack when strong corrosive acid was poured forcibly into his mouth. The Acid Survivors Foundation of Bangladesh made a number of complex, life-saving operations possible and he has grown into a remarkable, irrepressible little boy – still not five years old. His name means ‘invincible’ and he is living up to it.

Survival beyond Surgery
Acid burns have a devastating effect on the skin and the injuries incurred are brutal and require long and complicated medical treatment. Nevertheless, surgery alone is not enough for survivors to overcome their trauma. The foundations in Bangladesh, Pakistan, Uganda & Cambodia, adopt a holistic approach to supporting survivors and as a result of approaching the problem holistically, by looking at all the relevant angels, the foundations have developed into eminent, successful projects.

Acid Violence in Punjab, Pakistan
